My First Hair Kit
So many women have gone through life being told that their hair is wild and distracting, made to believe that straight is beautiful and curly is not, but all hair is beautiful and MY FIRST HAIR KIT is here to remind you of that
My research was heavily influenced by my user interaction. I interviewed 5 women about their hair journey and their relationship with their hair. One common point was that they all started to be interested in their natural hair from the ages 16 and above. This was due to many reasons from peer pressure to have straight hair, to the lack of representation, but the main one lack of information on how to care for their natural hair. This kit will help girls feel comfortable with their natural hair. It will help to get rid of expectations in the future about hair and to encourage people to be more accepting of our differences and change their attitudes towards black women and their hair. Below are some stand out quotes form my interviews.
These bottles will be made from white PET which is fully recyclable, with a full body shrink sleeve to achieve the colours and labelling. This hair kit also comes with a refill system, allowing you to reuse your bottles time and time again; reducing waste. On the app there will be a section where you can request a refill for any of the products and it will be posted to you.
Along with the kit you get acess to an online service through the QR code on the inside of the box, giving you information about each of your products; what they are, how to use them and style tutorials. This service gives the user the confidence they need to do their hair and to embrace their natural hair through the information and help this service provides. The box is also made to fit through the letter box making sutre you will never miss a delivery and be able to start your journey as soon as possible.
The importance of this project is huge. Encouraging young girls to embrace their natural selves and getting them to love their hair from an earlier age. So many women now have gone through life being told that their hair is wild and distracting, made to believe that straight is beautiful and curly is not. This kit is a step in the direction of embracing your hair and giving black girls and girls of colour the confidence they need to feel empowered about their hair and to take that step forward. My first hair kit would be a limited collection by the brand Afrocenchix. Afrocenchix is a black owned small business with a sustainable and ethical business practice at its heart.
